UED102, 7th Class, Part 3: Library and Campus Resources
LAST CLASS! I couldn't be more happier to know that interim break is coming and we have 5 weeks to be spent with friends and family at home. But knowing that I won't be seeing my classmates and learning in the same class anymore makes me sad. The worst thing is not having the opportunity to learn about the correct way to study or even taking lessons out of the lecturer's past stories. I'm not sure which one saddens me more.
But, BACK TO THE BUSINESS. Our last class for Study Skills was all about Library and Campus Resources. Basically, everything about our library and the resources around us. Being a UiTM student benefits me in many ways. Some of it will be discussed more in this post.
First of all, we were being introduced to the librarians and the staffs at the library. Oh before that, did I mention about our lecturer of the day? Well, she is not really a lecturer as she is a librarian but she is giving lecture for that day so technically, she is a lecturer (at the moment π). Her name is Miss Nur Fatiha or you can call her Cik Nur. She shared about the organization of the library in her slides. From our Rector to the staffs in the library, to the vision and the mission of the library itself.
Forget about that not-so-interesting topic, we were then introduced to the history of our library. Named after the second Prime Minister, Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak started its operation on November 2015. This three-storey building consist of a Reading Room, a computer lab, a locker room, tv, a lift and tons of books that we can borrow. From magazines to newspapers, to CDs and also revision books, do not call this a library if there are no stuffs like those mentioned. They also have plenty of places for the students to sit down and do their own work.

We can also make an Inter Library Loan (ILL). A maximum of 2 books are able to be borrowed from other UiTM libraries. Wait for a few working days and VOILA, the book is for you! (to be borrowed lol). Other than that service, there are some facilities available in PTAR, UiTM Raub:
Kelas Kemahiran Maklumat or KKM is a class where it teaches about stuffs related to your assignments eg: how to find articles or something like that π
There are some basic rules that needs to be followed by the students. For male students like, we are required to wear a collared-shirt except for Mondays where we should wear formal attire. Our Matrix Card is a must, even if the destination is not the library. We cannot bring our bags into the library. This is when the locker room plays it role as we can keep our essentials in there. Make sure you have 50 cents with you!
Next, online resources services. This is a modern library I must say. They have plenty of resources such as Blis to E-books. Blis is a digitalized newspapers from various dates and years while E-books is basically, a digitalized books (duh π). They also have a website where we can have a Chat With Librarian. We can ask questions through this chatroom in case you are too shy to ask.
They also have online journals, thesis and articles. That way, it is easier to surf and locate stuffs faster. Not to mention, past year questions and OPAC website are also available in the library. Cool huh?
Enough with the library, we also learned about APA Style Citation. This is the right way to do a citation without plagiarising one's work. APA Style is commonly used in Malaysia. This is useful to me and my classmates as we must apply this technique when we do our assignments later in the future.
Cik Nur brought a book along with her before entering the class. So, she showed us an example of how to do citation correctly. Example:
Shreta (2009). Crime, justice and society: an introduction to sociology. New Delhi: MD
Publications Pvt. Ltd.
It looks hard but we will get used to it. However, based on last week's class, we can use some useful webs or even Office Word to do this citation. It's the 21st Century. Everything is there for you π
The class had 30 minutes left. Cik Nur decided to bring us to the library to do some activities. The distance from the class and the library is not that far, thus it didn't take us a long time to reach PTAR. After we have settled down, she gave us some tasks to do. One of it is individual task and one of it is a group task.
Since we already formed a group to do the video assignment, we were asked to sit in that group and complete the tasks given. I must say that it has been awhile since we work together in a group. But all went well and everything was fine.
The individual task was a quiz where it have questions about what we have learned earlier in the class. That wasn't hard since we already understands about the lecture.
For the group activity, we were assigned to do citation on 5 different books given by Cik Nur. Since there are 5 people in a group, one person takes a book and do the citation.
Before the class officially ends, Cik Nur brought us to the computer lab where she showed us on how to download past year question papers from WWW.EQPS.PTAR.EDU.MY . EQPS literally stands for Electronic Question Paper System. Not only in the library, we can also surf the web in our rooms or even at our hometown.
The end of the last class of UED102.
